I’m Brender Willmott the course manager for the HNC and FdSc Operational Yacht Science. This is such an exciting course, and I am delighted to welcome you to it as you also start your Superyacht cadetship at UKSA. I have been a course manager and writer of a number of different marine courses since 2009 – these include Surf Science and Technology and Marine Sports Science, and I took over the stewardship of Operational Yacht Science in 2018.
I was born and brought up surfing in Cornwall and my love of the ocean has led me to be an advocate for it and to that end I recently spent 5 years on secondment to a project around the marine environment and encouraging young people to value and protect our ocean and marine environments. This led to me receiving a national award by the Worshipful Company of Teachers as Inspirational Environmental Educator of the Year in 2020.
I am delighted to be working on this course with you as it offers hugely exciting potential experience and progression in an industry that is growing exponentially. I will be visiting monthly and will always be available online to chat or offer support and advice on the course or pastoral issues that are outside the remit of UKSA.
