Welcome to the Falmouth Marine
School Higher Education hub which will give you a little information about the Professional
Super Yacht Engineer career program. This is a very different course to that
which you would normally expect to study at higher education as it is totally
focused upon a career as an Engineer working on-board a Super Yacht or within the Small Vessel Sector. You will also spend time at sea with our partner commercial organisation, Turn to Starboard, and spend 15 weeks completing a range of RYA qualifications.
I am
delighted to welcome you to the program as you commence your career within this
sector of the commercial maritime industry. The team at the marine school are
here to ensure your success on the course and in your future career.
My own background is as a marine
engineer, initially apprenticing with the Royal Navy and working on-board a
number of RN Destroyers specialising in Steam, Diesel and Gas Turbine propulsion
and power generation systems. Typically, when working at sea, an engineer has
to be able to work across all of the ship’s systems and in many ways the ships systems and vessels in use by the RN vary very little in detail to the modern super yacht
industry.
We have a number of staff who work
on the program that have a background either in the Super Yacht sector or
with the commercial shipping sectors and they are there to guide you through
your studies. Alongside the academic study
content for your HNC you will also spend time in our workshops developing a
range of hand skills that will serve you well as you progress in to the
industry.
We are delighted to be working on
this course with you on a study program that offers the potential for a hugely exciting experience and progression in to an industry that is growing exponentially.
