Welcome back to the 2nd
year of your studies at Falmouth Marine School and our Higher Education hub which
will give you a little more information about the FdSc Professional Super Yacht
Engineer career program. As you will be aware, this is a very different course
to that which you would normally expect to study at higher education as it is
totally focused upon a career as an Engineer working on-board a Super Yacht. The
team at the marine school are here to ensure your success on the course and in
your future career.
The 2nd year of your
study program is of 24 weeks duration and you should expect to have completed
all of the required study by the end of March and whilst the main focus this year
is in completing the academic study you will still spend time in our workshops continuing
with the development of your hand skills that will serve you well as you
progress in to the industry. We are delighted to be working on
this course with you on this study program that offers hugely exciting
potential experience and progression in an industry that is growing
exponentially.
Martin Peart | Course Manager for the HNC and FdSc Professional Superyacht Engineer
There is no specific reading list
for the course although any marine engineering publication would be
appropriate, however there are a number of Super Yacht websites that are worthy
of a look and these include:
Burgess Yachts is a global leader in the luxury yacht industry, specialising in the sale, charter, management, and construction of superyachts.. Founded in 1975, Burgess offers a wide range of services to yacht owners and enthusiasts, including yacht brokerage, refit, and crew management.
The Superyacht Directoryis the world's largest database of private luxury yachts, listing over 14,000 superyachts. It provides comprehensive information on a wide range of yachts, including new builds, historic vessels, and some of the most famous yachts of all time.
Other Resources
Apart from the usual notebooks/pens/pencils etc, you will need a Casio scientific calculator to assist with calculations. Cheaper alternatives are not recommended, Casio seem to be most suitable for the level of calculations for this course.
You will also require overalls and work shoes for the practical workshop activities, preferably with steel protection toe caps. Uniform requirements will already have been a point of discussion for you.
