My name is Angela and I have worked at TCCG for nearly 10 years. My first specialism started off in Environmental Conservation and Eco System Management which then blended perfectly with Marine Biology and Ecology. Over the years it has been a great pleasure to give all learners the experience in working in the most diverse habitats with Cornwall. With the practical elements of the course we have took part in numerous Nature Reserve projects and freshwater and coastal surveys. My main subject areas within the above courses are invasive species and pollution. This is always current within our daily lives and a constant threat to all environments. Also over the years, I have supported learners in securing work experience placements. We are lucky here in Cornwall that we have an array of educational visitor attractions where our student have undertaken work experience or gain employment such as Gweek Seal Sanctuary, Newquay Aquarium and Plymouth Aquarium, just to mention a few.
As part of my position at Falmouth Marine School, I am also the Diving Co-ordinator. This gives all learner the opportunity to gain PADI accredited qualifications. This is facilitated by Kennack Diving who not only teach the diving skills but also work with us to look at the diversity of the marine environment from a unique perspective.
To put all the diving skills and coastal surveys into practice, I have organised numerous trips abroad, for example, Egypt, Red Sea, Greece and Madeira. These trips are not just for students who can dive. We also conduct visits to Nature Reserves, educational and cultural establishments as well as marine wildlife watching and regional coastal surveys.
The location and facilities at Falmouth Marine School enables us to offer this unique course to study the wildlife and associated issues in our immediate vicinity and surrounding marine environment.
We are looking forward to meeting new students to Falmouth Marine School in the forthcoming new academic term.
